Change of government, black holes and ways of filling them…..albeit that physics struggles with the concept of filling a black hole, the Labour Government needs to try and square that circle, and thus the October budget is predicted to bring an extended shovel to capital taxes. This makes the latest edition of this hugely popular seminar more important than ever for all wills, estate and tax practitioners.
Alan Barr and Sandra Eden return in person(s) and across the ether to present this review of what has happened in 2024 and its consequences for the future. Even without anticipated tax changes, there are significant developments from the courts and the Scottish Parliament, many of them even perceived to be useful. All of this will be covered - IHT, CGT and relevant income tax, as well as non-tax developments. Statutes, case-law and other practical developments will receive attention. It is a vital review (with a bit of preview) for anyone working in this area – comprehensive coverage with detailed materials, delivered with a light touch. Bring back some joy to the twin inevitabilities of death and taxes. Don't just take our word for it, read the feedback from last year's seminar below.

Alan Barr, partner Brodies LLP and Honorary Fellow of the Law School, University of Edinburgh and Sandra Eden, former Senior Lecturer in Private Law, University of Edinburgh.
